Is Chris Carter the Power Bat the Oakland Athletics Have Been Missing?

After Daric Barton left Sunday’s game with back spasms, reports began to surface that the Oakland A’s would call up their top power prospect, Chris Carter, to join the team in Seattle.

Carter was acquired by the Athletics in the trade which sent Dan Haren to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is currently hitting .262, but has 27 home runs and 89 RBI in Triple-A Sacramento.

Oakland, which has hit the second-fewest home runs in baseball and also has the second-worst slugging percentage in the American League, is in desperate need of a power hitter.

The promotion of Carter could provide the Athletics’ offense with the bat they failed to acquire at the trading deadline.
