After scoring the second-fewest number of runs in Major League Baseball last year, the San Francisco Giants’ offseason objective was simple: Get offense.

And they did, although probably not to the degree many would have expected. Rather than re-sign Carlos Beltran or even a lesser free agent like Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel or Josh Willingham, the Giants opted for a couple of low-leverage trades.
