San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh rolled the dice and went with his second-year signal-caller Colin Kaepernick after his veteran starter Alex Smith got hurt—and rode the wave to the cusp of a Super Bowl championship. 

While losing in the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history certainly stings, 49ers fans can take heart in the fact that Kaepernick is clearly a star on the rise.
